Arm Lift (Brachioplasty)

Arm lift surgery removes sagging skin and fat deposits from the upper arms to achieve firmer and more youthful-looking arms.

Arm Lift (Brachioplasty)

An arm lift (brachioplasty) is a plastic surgery procedure that surgically removes sagging skin and fat from the inner upper arms, creating tighter, shapelier, and younger-looking arms. It provides a lasting solution especially for arm skin that has sagged due to weight loss or aging.

What Is an Arm Lift (Brachioplasty)?

Skin sagging on the inner upper arms (also known as "bat wings") becomes prominent when the arms are raised or left hanging freely. This sagging, which cannot be reduced through diet and exercise, results from loss of skin elasticity or significant weight loss.

In brachioplasty, excess skin and fat tissue are removed through an incision on the inner upper arm; the arm is reshaped and tightened. When necessary, it is combined with liposuction.

Who Is a Candidate?

  • Those with significant skin sagging on the inner upper arms (bat wings)
  • Those with arm sagging following bariatric surgery or major weight loss
  • Those who have lost arm skin elasticity due to aging
  • Those experiencing discomfort and clothing difficulties due to their arms
  • Adults at a stable weight with good overall health

Brachioplasty Methods

Minimal Brachioplasty

For mild sagging, minimal skin removal is performed through a small incision in the armpit only.

Standard Brachioplasty

Significant skin sagging is addressed through a vertical incision extending from the elbow to the armpit. This is the most common technique.

Liposuction-Assisted Brachioplasty

When fat accumulation is also present, liposuction is combined so that both fat and sagging are resolved in the same session.

Procedure Steps

1. Assessment

The degree of sagging, amount of fat, and skin quality are examined; the incision length is planned.

2. Anesthesia

General anesthesia or sedation with local anesthesia is administered. The procedure takes 1.5–3 hours.

3. Incision and Tissue Removal

Excess skin and, if needed, fat are removed through an incision on the inner upper arm; the arm is reshaped.

4. Closure

Incisions are closed in layers with fine sutures.
