Liposuction
Liposuction targets localized fat deposits that cannot be eliminated through diet and exercise, sculpting the body contour.
Liposuction (fat removal) is one of the most common aesthetic surgeries that surgically removes localized fat deposits unreachable through diet and exercise, contouring the body. Modern techniques offer minimal scarring, rapid recovery, and lasting results.
What Is Liposuction?
Liposuction is a procedure that aspirates resistant fat tissue from specific areas of the body using small cannulas. It is not a weight-loss method but a contouring procedure; therefore, it targets body contour rather than overall weight.
It can be applied to the abdomen, waist, flanks (love handles), hips, thighs, inner knees, arms, back, and face-neck area. The procedure is typically performed under general anesthesia or local anesthesia with sedation; multiple areas can be treated in a single session.
Who Is a Candidate?
- Individuals near a healthy weight but with localized fat deposits
- Those bothered by regional fat that does not respond to diet
- People with good skin elasticity and no sagging
- Adults whose general health is suitable for surgery
- Non-smokers or those willing to quit
- Individuals with realistic expectations (liposuction is not an obesity treatment)
Liposuction Techniques
Tumescent Liposuction
A special solution (saline + adrenaline + anesthetic) is injected into the fat area, after which fat is aspirated with a cannula. It is the most common and safest technique; bleeding risk is very low.
VASER (Ultrasonic) Liposuction
Ultrasound energy first breaks down fat cells, which are then aspirated. It provides more precise contouring and is ideal for fibrous areas and revision liposuction.
Laser Liposuction (Smartlipo)
Laser energy melts the fat while simultaneously tightening the skin. It is advantageous for small areas and skin laxity.
Power-Assisted Liposuction (PAL)
A motorized cannula vibration removes fat with less force and greater precision; it is preferred for larger areas.
High-Definition (HD) Liposuction
Fat around muscle groups is precisely removed to achieve an athletic appearance (enhanced visibility of abdominal muscles).
Treatable Areas
- Abdomen and waist area
- Flanks (love handles)
- Inner and outer thighs
- Inner knee fat
- Upper arm area
- Back and bra-line fat
- Submental area and neck
- Chest (male and female)
Procedure Steps
1. Assessment and Marking
Fat accumulation zones and adjacent anatomical structures are evaluated; contour markings are drawn on the skin before the procedure.
2. Anesthesia
Depending on the number and volume of areas, local anesthesia with sedation or general anesthesia is chosen.
3. Tumescent Solution and Cannula
The solution is injected; cannulas are inserted through 2–4 mm micro-incisions to aspirate fat.
4. Compression and Closure
Incisions are closed; a compression garment is applied.
Advantages of Liposuction
